ABOUT THE ARTIST

Elizabeth Harris creates intensely emotional ink and pastel drawings. Her work is minimalist, leaving the focus directly on the figures. Harris is a master of line, texture, and emotion.

Harris describes her work process as "drawing the nexus of my inner and outer lives. When a drawing works," she says, "the point of my pen balances at the intersection of seeing, feeling, and thinking." She describes her drawings as expressions of her changing time, space, and emotional continuum. She uses charcoal and/or ink on a wooden coffee stirrer that is layered with generations of ink.

There is immediacy to Harris' work. The determined directness of a line drawn, as opposed to the more labored process of painting makes every mark about the present moment.

Elizabeth McNeil Harris has lived in the US and Europe. She has produced documentary films for PBS, Guggenheim Productions, and the Discovery Channel. Elizabeth currently lives in Chevy Chase, Maryland with her husband, two sons, a dog, a cat, four fish, and three hives of bees. And her easel.
